MPLS and VPLS

Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) manage line traffic based on priority and is a good way to enable Ethernet based multipoint-to-multipoint communications.

MPLS – VPLS Network Technology

MPLS is a virtual private networking solution which enables smart usage of packet labelling, packet switching and prioritisation. VPLS is a type of VPN that supports the connection of multiple sites with Layer-2 control. This allows all services in a VPLS appear to be on the same LAN, regardless of location.

How MPLS – VPLS Networks Work

FluidOne’s routing of MPLS packets allow data to take the shortest route between sites, rather than via a central hub; real-time applications don’t suffer at peak times, or when passing through bottlenecks. VPLS presents an Ethernet interface simplifying the LAN/WAN while enabling rapid service provisioning; due to bandwidth not being tied to the physical interface.
