Role Overview

This is an excellent position for an experienced development manager to lead a team of six in out London office. The role will involve overseeing all development projects and being responsible for the overall management and on-time delivery of development projects.

We develop and maintain websites and web services that provide our customers with the ability to automatically place and maintain orders, as well as developing in-house tools.

You will need to capture and analyse the business needs and translate these into development projects. You will be expected to work with the business to ensure you have all requirements and set reachable release dates. It is expected that you will carry this out by creating sprints with the team.

You must also be able to handle the continual flow of new requests and ensure there is a process in place which means the most important requests are developed. You will be responsible for conducting bi-annual appraisals and helping the team to grow.

Main Duties

  • Manage the team of developers and provide daily support

  • Ensure on-time high-quality code releases

  • Understand and balance the difference between writing the perfect code vs business needs

  • Regularly meet with team members and provide coaching/performance management

  • Organise and carry out bi-annual appraisals

  • Assist in the recruitment (interviews, managing tasks) of new members of the development team when needed

  • Responsible for creating business analysis reports to be seen by the Executive Team

  • Running development projects from design to post-deployment

  • The design and implementation of complex systems throughout their lifecycle

  • Deploying new projects into the existing systems infrastructure

  • Writing code specifications and planning and running sprints

  • Experience / Qualifications

  • BA/BSc in CS, or a numerate discipline or equivalent

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Strong leadership and management experience

  • You should have background in programming, although it is not necessary for this to be up to date

  • Experience with Jira and TFS

  • Must have a strong command of the English language, both written and verbal

  • Be able to demonstrate good problem solving skills

  • Ideally know and understand the telecommunications industry

  • Good at motivating

  • Ability to create SQL queries is advantageous

  • Practical understanding of the following:

    o Web services, SOAP, WSDL, XML
    o IIS 7.0
    o MS Visual Studios
    o Jira
    o Java
